TONY GRIFFIN
Born in Glasgow in 1963, Tony Griffin spent many years working as an electrician in Scotland and Canada before pursuing his true passion: painting, which he turned into his main career.
Tony studied for two years at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto from 1994 to 1996, under the guidance of the renowned Canadian painter Graham Coughtry. In 1997, he returned to Glasgow to further his artistic education at the Glasgow School of Art, where he learned from Sandy Moffat, Robin Hume, Stuart McKenzie and Callum Innes, ultimately graduating with a BA Hons in Fine Art.
In recent years, Tony has defined his style stating that he has gravitated back toward a more painterly impressionistic approach. This perfectly complements his preferred subjects of cityscape and landscape paintings. Utilising oil for its versatility on canvas and board, Tony aims to capture the colour, tone, and light of the landscapes and built environments that inspire him. While his work is contemporary, it is deeply influenced by the Scottish Colourists and the broader European tradition.
