ROSEMARY LEWIS

Rosemary grew up with a passion for dance and art.  Thanks to a supportive family she continued both in tandem.  After completing her A Level Art she assisted her financing of her studies at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary dance through painting and selling her work.

Having graduated, Rosemary was increasingly focused on her art.  She took a foundation art course at St Martins College of Art and Design, with a particular focus into the techniques of the late 19th and early 20th century realist and impressionist oil painters. She discovered that the discipline and focus she had gained from her studies in dance were skills which transferred well into learning realist oil painting techniques, and the feelings that she was once able to express through dance, she could now put into her paintings.

Over the last couple of years, Rosemary has been increasingly drawn to flowers as a subject, for their graceful beauty and complexity and also memories and associations from childhood (her mum is a very keen gardener!) Rosemary also loves to work outdoors (en plein air), painting landscapes and flowers, where the changing light and seasons are a constant inspiration.

Commissioning Artwork

If you like the style and have a particular subject in mind then it may be possible to commission a piece from the particular artist.

The Atelier Gallery has managed many commissions for our clients and believes it is a unique and personal way of purchasing art. We are here to simplify a process that allows you to become fully engaged, as appropriate, with the design and development of a bespoke piece of artwork.
