Since the age of four, drawing has been a part of Harry Bell’s life, evolving into a serious pursuit of painting during his Civil Service employment in 1989. He held his first solo show at Northumbria University Gallery in 1995, and after retiring early in 1997, and graduating with a BA (Hons) degree from Newcastle University in 2001. 

As a native of Gateshead’s Bensham area, Harry’s work largely mirrors the urban environment, often exploring the interplay of light and shadow on architectural forms. Harry’s travels influenced his use of colour, and he has recently turned his focus to still life painting, highlighting textures and vibrant hues. 

Although Harry occasionally draws and paints from the subject, Harry’s primary inspiration comes from his own manipulated photographs. His goal isn’t photorealism, but rather a fusion of several processes into a final piece. Harry continues to reside in Gateshead, infusing his surroundings into his art.
