GILLIAN WESTLAND
Gillian Westland, an artist near Edinburgh studied Fine Art at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, focusing on sculpture and conceptual art. Initially interested in human experiences her passion for animals and nature now drives her creativity.
Gillian finds messages in the eyes of animals and birds she paints, viewing them as messengers prompting reflection on our connection with nature. Her recent work emphasises birds whose unique perspectives inspire her. In her art she explores their wisdom and highlights the fragility of our environment.
She uses bold gestural marks for habitats, contrasting with detailed portrayals of birds and animals. This interplay symbolises nature’s wild forms within a structured order. Gillian often includes golden branches in her paintings symbolising nature’s richness and renewal.
